Restricted free agent Kyle Connor has made it pretty clear that missing time due to contract negotiations is not his preferred route of action.

When asked about getting a deal done prior to training camp, the Winnipeg Jets forward sounded pretty enthusiastic about that outcome.

“Yeah, that’s definitely the plan,” the 22-year-old told TSN. “The player never wants to miss time in training camp, you know, it’s tough always coming in, not getting that preparation and time with the teammates in practice. So, that’s definitely a goal for sure.”

Whether or not that winds up happening remains to be seen. However, it really does sound like the 2017 first-round pick wants to stay in ‘The Peg,’ given his response to which kind of contract structure he would prefer.

“We’ll look at everything,” Connor stated. “But probably focus more on long term.”

Although there are a number of teams trying to sort out agreements with an RFA, Winnipeg is in a unique situation. The organization has two high-profile RFAs in Connor and Patrik Laine still looking for a deal.

The club has more than $17.5-million in available cap space, according to CapFriendly.
