The No. 1-seed UConn Huskies, defending champions, will face the underdogs No. 5-seed San Diego State Aztecs in a national title game rematch in the Sweet 16 on Thursday.

The Huskies, seeded at the top, have breezed through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. They dominated their first-round game against Stetson, winning by 39 points, and followed it up with a 19-point win against Northwestern in the second round.

Tristen Newton had an outstanding performance in the second round, leading the team in scoring with 20 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds. Donovan Clingan also played a significant role in the team's 75-58 victory, contributing 14 points, 14 rebounds, and one assist.

San Diego had a different journey to the Sweet 16. They faced off against UAB in the first round and narrowly avoided elimination by defeating the Blazers 96-65. The Aztecs took a different approach in the second round, dominating Yale by 29 points to secure their place in the Sweet 16. San Diego State vs. UConn predictions

Sporting News: UConn 80, San Diego State 63

Mike Breen writes: "UConn beat San Diego State decisively in last year’s championship game 76-59. With some key pieces remaining and some new blood, this year’s Huskies team is decidedly better than last season. Last year, the Aztecs dominated the Mountain West and won the conference tournament. This year, with many of the same players, SDSU finished fifth in the conference. UConn should continue its tournament dominance and return to the Elite Eight for the second year in a row."

Douglas Farmer: "The San Diego State Aztecs offense is lackluster, at least in comparison to what a Sweet Sixteen team should boast. They shot terribly from deep, just 30.4% from beyond the arc in Mountain West play. San Diego State relies on offensive rebounds to put up enough points. UConn ranked No. 3 in Big East play in giving up offensive boards. Cutting off that supply will be just another feature of this bettered Huskies defense, and it will cost the Aztecs any hopes of working the scoreboard."

ESPN: UConn have 86% chance to win

According to ESPN's Matchup Predictor, the UConn Huskies have a 86.4% chance to beat the San Diego Aztecs in the Sweet 16 game.
