PWHL Champion Sydney Brodt Signs With Frolunda
Sydney Brodt, who won a Walter Cup in the PWHL last season as a member of Minnesota has signed a contract in Sweden to play in the SDHL with Frolunda.
"We have checked the market and Sydney is perfect for us," said general manager Kim Martin Hasson. "We need to feel safe in view of an upcoming JVM and Olympic qualification. We have many players away and there could be injuries and other things.
Martin Hasson described Brodt as "An experienced player who is energetic, smart, works hard and has a sense of purpose. She has a winning mentality and is a natural leader."
The 26-year-old Brodt appeared in seven regular season games after returning from a preseason injury last season before scoring two points in 10 playoff games for Minnesota. Prior to the PWHL she captained the PHF's Minnesota Whitecaps, and also won a World Championship gold medal as a national team member of Team USA.
Brodt is familiar with the SDHL having played in the league during the 2021-22 season when she scored 56 points in 36 games for Linkoping.
"I came to the conclusion that the SDHL was the second best league to be in," said Brodt. "And being able to come to Frölunda is very exciting considering what Erika (Holst) and Kim (Martin Hasson) have built in recent years."
Brodt who will wear #88 for Frolunda will join the team December 27.
