Oilers Debut Bizarre New Lines Against Leafs
EDMONTON -- When in doubt, mix it up.
Or just for the fun of it.
That appears to be the approach of Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch. With a loss fresh on the Oilers' minds, Knoblauch decided to completely revamp his entire lineup for Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Change begins at the top. Connor McDavid centers the duo of Leon Draisaitl and Corey Perry. Perry has been a solid depth piece who gets rewarded for his recent engaged play.
A new-look second line of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Viktor Arvidsson, and Zach Hyman will be seen in action. Hyman and Nugent-Hopkins have obvious chemistry, so seeing how Arvidsson meshes with them will be interesting.
EDM lineup vs. TOR:
Draisaitl - McDavid - Perry
Arvidsson - RNH - Hyman
Podkolzin - Henrique - Brown
Skinner - Janmark - Kapanen
Nurse - Klingberg
Kulak - Bouchard
Stecher - Emberson

Adam Henrique will center Vasily Podkolzin and Connor Brown on the team's third line. Podkolzin welds a similar skill set to Mattias Janmark, so he should fit in well.
The fourth line will be a cast of misfits: Jeff Skinner, Kasperi Kapanen, and Janmark. Noah Philip will be a healthy scratch due to all of these changes.
But the change trickles down to the defenders.

Darnell Nurse will play with John Klingberg. Evan Bouchard will pair up with Brett Kulak in light of Mattias Ekholm missing the game due to illness.
Troy Stecher and Ty Emberson will make up the Oilers' third pairing.

The Maple Leafs will be a huge test for this newly put-together lineup. The obvious hole is Ekholm on the back end. His absence means that someone must step up when it comes time to kill penalties. In the last game, Bouchard hopped over the boards when Ekholm was in the penalty box, so I would suspect that he will step up.
