Maple Leafs fans already losing hope after another brutal loss
It started with a Toronto Maple Leafs fan throwing his jersey on the ice after a loss to the San Jose Sharks on Friday.
A day later, it escalated to a point where Mike Babcock was trending on Twitter following a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
After yet another defeat on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes — who owned the Leafs before the puck even dropped by featuring David Ayres in their pre-game entertainment — Leafs supporters just seem sick of it all.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe and Toronto players tried to keep a positive attitude post-game, but those words are falling on deaf ears for a fan base that has watched its team underachieve year after year.
Sheldon Keefe: "I think we leave here a better team... I think there's a lot of good things that our team did here but also in the lessons that we'll take away that'll make us a better team."

"I think the effort that we had compared to the other night in Pittsburgh was a lot better but obviously not the result that we wanted."

Campbell: "We'll snap back and get out of this." #Leafs

Coming off yet another first-round playoff exit last season, this time by blowing a 3-1 series lead against the rival Montreal Canadiens, the Leafs have stumbled out of the gate in 2021-22 with a record of 2-4-1. There are still 75 games remaining for Toronto to right the ship, but the club doesn't have the luxury of playing in the all-Canadian division this year and will have to fight much harder just to make it to the postseason.
Auston Matthews and Co. better hope they can heat up quickly, or they'll risk alienating even more of the impatient, restless fanbase. Here's some of the best social media reaction from Monday's loss.
Dishonest bunch of losers. They don't deserve to wear that logo, and @kyledubas should have some dignity and step down.#LeafsForever #FireDubas

Leafs need one of those cheesy movie moments where the coach takes the whole team to a pond where they have a game against a bunch of random kids and learn the value of having fun or something.

To be fair, the Leafs never win Game 7.
