David Pastrnak donates All-Star MVP winnings to local frontline worker

David Pastrnak is good people.

The Boston Bruins star winger identified a candidate and has now since donated his winnings from his MVP performance at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game — a 2021 Honda CRV Hybrid — to a frontline worker at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Pastrnak orchestrated the surprise for nurse Kaitlin Hagstrom, who is one of the many health care workers in the area and around the world to sacrifice so much in the fight against COVID-19. With the help of some of her co-workers, Pastrnak led Hagstrom outside the hospital, where the new vehicle was parked — with a signed No. 88 jersey in the trunk.

Pastrnak explained in a video message to Hagstrom that he felt connected to her through shared experiences. Like Pastrnak’s mother did for him, Hagstrom is a single parent working incredibly hard to provide for her son.

As part of the surprise, Hagstrom’s four-year-old, Shaun, who is now learning to skate, received a full set of new hockey equipment.
