Ariel Roblin: Honoring the sacrifices made by servicemembers and their families

Recently the California Chamber of Commerce held their annual host breakfast where special guests like Gov. Gavin Newsom and former speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown spoke. But the most inspiring message came from a man with even more of a passion to serve but who never ran for office, never worried about a popular vote or endorsements. Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Leroy Petry risked his life, suffered life-altering injuries and endured. He spoke clearly and directly to the audience with a message of action rooted in his own life experience of service and sacrifice. He asked us to consider the men and women who have died for our freedom. Then, he asked us to think about how we can do a better job to honor that sacrifice through our own engagement in our community.
