Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

17:11

Wolves prevailed against Luton Town at Molineux thanks to a 39th minute goal from Hwang Hee-Chan and an eventually decisive second from Toti five minutes into the second half. Carlton Morris did manage a riposte for the visitors with ten minutes left, yet a relatively dominant second-half display from the hosts was enough to snuff out any comeback from the Hatters. Wolves continue in the right direction towards the Premier League top ten with three games to go. However, Luton Town have it all to do if they're to survive as they continue 18th and a point behind Nottingham Forest. The first goal was well-worked by Hwang. Bettering his constant sparring partner in Teden Mengi, he jinked and jived in from the left to fire across Kaminski's goal. It may've been helped on it's way by Mengi, yet the Korean isn't likely to care with his 11th of the season, and his first goal in the Premier League since December 2023. Toti's goal came from a short corner routine on the right. Mario Lemina lofted over the received pass and found his Portuguese defender who nodded home strongly. While Luton were relatively uninspiring after this, they were boosted by the re-introduction of Elijah Adebayo and he helped cause chaos in the build-up to Luton's goal. Doughty put in a corner the big forward won, and at the second time of asking then floated a ball for Reece Burke to head for Morris to drive home on the volley. Wolves denied Luton in the final exchanges, and came good on an xG of 1.08 in comparison to the Hatters' 0.42. Now, Wolves look onwards to a trip to the Etihad next Saturday, while Luton are monitoring Forest's result at the same place tomorrow before they welcome Everton to Kenilworth Road on Friday. Thanks for joining us today, goodbye!

FULL-TIME: WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 2-1 LUTON TOWN

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:55

Into the last minute of the given stoppages. Berry fires the free-kick in and Luton can't get anything on it. It's then re-grouped and Berry fires on target! Sa however, is hardly tested. That's got to be the last kick of the game...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:54

Wolves are putting on a game management masterclass here, it feels. Time is running out for their visitors... but Chong has won a foul from Sarabia just outside the area on the left.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:53

Yellow Card Pablo Sarabia García

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:52

Kaminski and Lokonga pass it around the back. Edwards is rightfully raging! It needs to be up the other end guys!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:51

It's getting slightly tetchy here as Luton look for any chance to get the ball back from Wolves. It's like a bully of an older brother shoving around the little guy. Onyedinma retalitates to the passing with an over exhuberant nudge.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:50

There will be six minutes of additional time here at Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:49

The visitors are pushing onwards down the wings. Onyedinma goes in on Gomes a tad too hard and Wolves can regroup with a Sa free-kick forward.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:48

Luton have a free-kick just inside the Wolves half. Mengi pings it long, but it's wasted and Sa claims with relative ease.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:47

In the fallout of that offensive challenge, Onyedinma comes on for Doughty. He's another fine crossing option to find both Morris and Adebayo.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:47

Hwang is down after a challenge from Woodrow. Luton's no.10 thinks his opposing striker is making a meal of it...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:46

Wolves enjoyed a solid spell of possession and Berry regains control with an excellent tackle. Lokonga looks to turn away in the centre and wins a foul. There's yet another foul, but Luton are slowly building up the pitch.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:44

There's a stoppage in play now, as Ait-Nouri takes to the deck. His right quad seemingly, is the area of concern.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:44

Substitution Rayan Aït-Nouri Hugo Bueno López

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:40

Yellow Card Hee-Chan Hwang

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:40

Assist Reece Frederick James Burke

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:40

Luton have a corner after Adebayo makes an instant impact, linking up with Chong. The big man's quick turn is put behind by Lemina.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:39

Goal Carlton John Morris

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:38

Chong wins a foul after Wolves pressure comes to nothing. Yet, the pressure came from Kaminski and Mengi knocking it around the back at 2-0 down. Why? I hear you ask. I don't know...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:37

Substitution Ross Barkley Elijah Anuoluwapo Oluwaferanmi Oluwatomi Oluwalana Ayomikulehin Adebayo

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:35

Luton try to get forward once more but Kilman tackles heroically for Wolves on Berry. The hosts rush on in retort and Town are slow to cover the transition. Lemina fires true from range. Perhaps too true and it's in the stand...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:35

Substitution Matheus Santos Carneiro da Cunha Pablo Sarabia García

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:35

That's more like it from the visitors! Doughty gets the bit between his teeth and attacks the byline. It flies over everyone but a Wolves flick carries it behind for a corner to the away team. Ultimately though, it's dealt with by Wolves.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:32

Well, they're going to get more luck! Ait-Nouri and Hwang cut through Luton's line and the Algerian gets it inside the box but can't fix his feet and fluffs it wide right. There's reprieve in the offside flag being up, but still. Luton need to do something here...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:30

That space is growing almost with every Wolves move! Hwang gets in on the left and holds the ball up for the emerging Traore. He blasts on goal but it whizzes just left of the target. How many more let-offs are Luton going to get before replying?!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:28

Semedo gets a clean run on Kaminski after finding loads of space on the right but the Belgian stands firm! Wolves are hunting here, as the Hatters are so open!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:28

Quite comically, Doughty beats Toti on the right. He could've had a foul, yet gets up to do a monstrous touch that goes off for a Wolves goal-kick. That nearly sums it up today.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:25

Luton just can't create anything concrete so far in this second half. Doughty looks to play a cutting ball up to Clark but Chong gets in the way! The look of frustration from Clark is telling...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:24

Substitution Daiki Hashioka Cauley Woodrow

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:24

Substitution Jordan Charles Clark Luke David Berry

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:24

Edwards seemingly has some changes in the works. Wolves are brimming with confidence, so it could be much-needed if the Hatters are to leave with at least a point.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:21

The ensuing corner comes to nothing from the right. The focus at that set-piece seemed to be Barkley holding his nose after being clipped in the build-up to that last Wolves attack. He's already broken his nose once this term...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:20

Wolves are pulsating on a surge forward and it's cut back from the right. Chong gets a touch on it but Traore strikes with venom! Burke blocks bravely!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:20

Kaminski sweeper keeper! Hwang races in behind and while Mengi looks slightly flat footed for once, Kaminski flies out to dribble it towards the half way line!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:17

Luton just seemingly waking up now. Hashioka tests Kilman's awareness and forces a block in Luton's first real foray forward of note. Lokonga then tracks back...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:16

Yellow Card Albert-Mboyo Sambi Lokonga

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:14

Wolves finding space now, Doherty flies down the right in acres and floats one over. Hashioka scrapes it away, but this is unnerving from Luton, especially in transition now.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:13

Cunha looks dangerous and forces a corner from Osho's defensive stance. The centre back looks like he's on roller skates... Oh it's a foul on Cunha, that's why. Kaminski fires forward as Edwards' team look to regroup after going two behind.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:09

Assist Mario René Junior Lemina

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:09

Let off for Luton! A sliding Clark has to clear in the six-yard box! Hwang is played in down the centre right channel, and beats Osho for physicality. The latter slips and Hwang is able to put in a low cross. Clark is the hero and denies Toti arriving for a surefire goal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:07

Doughty fouls Doherty with a leg left in the Irishman's path. It's been a scrappy beginning to the second period here.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:07

Such is the fine margin here, it's interesting to look again at the stats. While Hwang is a threat, and a goalscorer of course, he completed just two passes in the first half.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:05

Wolves have a record of W7, D0, L2 when leading at half-time in the English Premier League this season. To make this perhaps more emphatic, Luton have failed to score a first-half goal in 24 of their 35 games, only Sheffield United (25) have failed to score more often in the English Premier League this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:04

KICK OFF: Wolves restart the game here at Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

16:04

While that analysis could read as Luton-backing, it must be said Wolves deserve this lead no matter how close the game's been. They just edge the xG stats, with an xG of 0.29 compared to Luton's 0.25. Wolves have enjoyed more of the ball, seeing 60 per cent to the Hatters' 40. Furthermore, Edwards' side need to subdue their hosts further if they're to get anything from this one. 36 per cent of the action has been in Luton's third. Just 16 per cent has been in Wolves', while a midfield battle is very present with 48 per cent.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:58

So, we go into the break here at Molineux with the hosts out in front thanks to Hwang's first goal since December and his 11th goal of the term. In terms of the flow of the game, it's been relatively even. Luton only really have themselves to blame, as they've had nearly as many shots (five) as Wolves (seven). The difference has been perhaps that fine Premier League margin, and it's been made clear with the engaging battle between Mengi and the goal scorer Hwang. While the Korean has enjoyed many runs in behind, Mengi has matched him with interceptions and physical presence. That said, the standout goal was a testament to the mercurial forward's talents, as he cut back in from the left before rolling past Kaminski. Adding this to Luton's number of half-chances, notably Morris' header straight at Sa just before the opener, Wolves' lead will be a tough pill to swallow going into the changing rooms.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:50

HALF TIME: WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 1-0 LUTON TOWN

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:47

The fourth official has signalled two additional minutes here at the end of the first half.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:45

Hwang now has four goals to his name that have opened the scoring in the Premier League this term.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:44

The corner doesn't really trouble Wolves and Cunha clears at the near post.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:44

Luton aren't ready to end this half just yet and earn a corner on the left side.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:41

Assist Matheus Santos Carneiro da Cunha

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:40

Morris! Luton have worked it well and a flighted ball from the left wing sees Morris rise, yet it's headed straight at Sa!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:40

Goal Hee-Chan Hwang

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:40

Well, I say that. Wolves regain the ball and Gomes fires... but it's comfortably over.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:39

Wolves have the Hatters under pressure, but Mengi stops Hwang again. Burke looks boxed in after Kaminski goes for some defensive possession. The former West Ham man plays it up the right touchline and Morris knocks it down. That was trademark.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:38

We've just seen two duff passes. The first came from Hashioka with a botched cross for a goal-kick. In the next phase, Ait-Nouri plays a simple ball out for a throw. Riveting stuff.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:37

Traore recovers well as Barkley Cruyff turns in the centre circle and drives on. The big Wolves midfielder tries to feed Hwang after regaining possession, yet Mengi cuts it out smartly.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:35

Wolves regroup as said, and fire it forward with Lemina. Mengi and Hwang are shoulder to shoulder, and you already know who prevails... Hwang isn't happy though, and claims the tussle was actually a pull-down. No foul given.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:34

Doughty turns his marker on the left inside then out, before driving for the byline excellently. The held up cross meets the wrong man seemingly, as Clark has no chance of heading that home. Wolves clear, there's another attack brewing, yet a possession loss leads to Doughty committing a foul. Wolves regroup.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:32

The visitors recover and Chong looks to make a mark with an adventurous dart forward. His cross from the left is less so, as Semedo blocks, yet there's some grumbled penalty shouts from the travelling contingent. That's soft to say the least fellas.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:31

That Cunha effort actually originated from a blocked Traore effort from outside the area. It ricocheted kindly for Wolves off two Hatters' players and inadvertently played in Cunha, yet he couldn't gather his composure in time...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:30

Luton get quite easily opened up as Semedo fires over a cross at the second time of asking from the right. It's failed to clear by the visitors and Cunha looks to latch on... but he's floorbound. Seems a loss of balance meant the Brazilian couldn't capitalise on some pretty lapse defending.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:28

Toti emerges with the ball further up the pitch after a skirmish in the middle sees a Wolves free-kick won. The Portuguese is unchallenged and opts for a shot from range... he slips but still forces Kaminski to clutch it close to his body. Worth a go, but still a way off if he wants to earn that extra 't' like his near namesake Francesco...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:27

Clark produces some excellent midfield play as Luton come forward. He wriggles free of intense pressure and plays Lokonga in, yet he can't get it under control and Wolves eventually clear. That's after a half-shout for a Toti handball, but with the recovering defender's arms low, it would've been very harsh.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:25

It's intriguing looking at Wolves' scorers. While Cunha is the team's leading scorer with 11 goals, Hwang has been nearly as impressive with 10 goals, including three match-openers.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:23

Where Hwang perhaps loses the battle of strength with Mengi, the battle of wits is certainly on! Hwang is slipped in behind on the right channel of the centre backs and forces a low save from Kaminski! Mengi then puts the bouncing ball out for a corner, although this ultimately comes to nothing.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:22

As previously mentioned, these sides played out a 1-1 draw in their last Premier League meeting, a September match at Kenilworth Road. Pedro Neto scored Wolves' lone goal in the 50th minute. Carlton Morris scored for the Hatters in the 65th minute with a spot-kick. Today's win percentages chart a 43.9 backing of Wolves, where a draw sits at 27.9. A Luton win charts at 28.2.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:20

Mengi is looking the better of the two in his battle with Hwang. The tricky former Salzburg man is looking to get in again, yet Mengi towers over him and sees the pass out for a throw.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:19

Hwang beats the offside trap down the right side of the centre backs. Mengi forces him wider and the Korean tries to pull it back, but a Mengi touch keeps it behind the arriving Cunha and Luton can work it clear.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:18

Barkley telegraphs the deep free-kick from the right to the back post. It's not cleared by Wolves as Osho is scrambling to get it under control. It's eventually pulled away from danger by the hosts.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:16

Kaminski fires a free-kick from a Hwang offside directly out of play. After this inbound, a flailing arm catches Burke in the face. Luton get a foul, but Cunha survives a booking.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:15

Barkley and Clark link up nicely in the middle. Clark puts it over to Hashioka and he fires in a tempting cross. Morris rises, yet can't generate enough power on the header. Sa catches safely in the centre of the goal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:12

Hwang plays Semedo down the right, yet there's no one in the middle. Kaminski comes and collects with ease.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:12

Yellow Card João Victor Gomes da Silva

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:11

After Luton's confidence on the ball, Wolves look to string some passes together. It seems like O'Neil's side are just trying to figure out which agle to move down.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:11

Things are really hotting up this term as we encroach on the final four games for both sides. For Wolves, they’ve settled their top-tier status once again. Sitting comfortably 12th, a top ten finish may still be in reach. That said, the West Midlands side can now enjoy a seventh consecutive season in the top echelon of England’s football pyramid. On the contrary, their visitors to Molineux are approaching this game with survival firmly on the brain. After two 5-1 defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Brentford respectively, Luton Town are looking to pull themselves out of the relegation zone. The 18th-placed Hatters look for three points or even a draw, knowing a Forest loss against City tomorrow could see the two level on points or Luton scraping ahead. It’s still all to play for...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:10

Mengi and Hwang is emerging as a great battle here. The young centre back has supressed the Korean attacker pretty well so far.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:10

Luton continue to work the ball smartly in behind here... Morris is in yet alone and puts it onto his right. It's blocked well, yet these are promising early signs for the visitors.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:08

Clark makes an interesting inroad after dropping short and then bursting in behind on the right. He gets through but tamely fires at Sa.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:07

There's a couple more bitty fouls that have taken place in the early exchanges. Luton have moved the ball up the pitch on the right. A dangerous looking cross from that side isn't capitalised upon and Wolves head clear. Luton rebuild, Chong is blocked but Barkley fires on goal powerfully and Sa has to tip away athletically to his right!

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:05

For Luton's away form... they seek to address a poor run of results on their travels this season with four draws, 11 losses, and just two wins in league away contests. The Hatters are looking to reverse an eight-match away winless streak (W0 D3 L5). They haven't won away since December 2023 against Sheffield United.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:04

Mengi hushes Hwang on the right and sees the ball out for a Kaminski goal-kick.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:04

For further context, Wolves' home form reflects seven wins, three draws, and seven losses this season in 17 Premier League contests.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

Facing up against Wolves, Rob Edwards goes against one of his old clubs. Additionally, with Gary O'Neil steering the Wolverhampton ship - this game pits two of the youngest managers in the league against each other. Will we see an equally tense outing like September's 1-1 at Kenilworth Road...

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Luton Town

15:01

The players filter out. Wolves led by Kilman, Luton by Morris - we really have two sides ready and raring to go. Although Wolves are more than safe, this is certainly no dead rubber for them. The form book nods at an intriguing matchup. In their last six league matches, Wolves have drawn two and lost four. Luton, meanwhile, have won one, drawn one and lost four in their last six.
