Bill Bailey is still the runaway favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing 2020, according to Ladbrokes.

The comedian is far ahead of his fellow competitors with odds of 8/11 to take this year’s Glitterball Trophy.

However, there could still be room for upset, with social media star HRVY cementing his second place position this week after performing the first routine of the season to score a perfect 30 points on Saturday (28 November). He has a 5/2 chance of winning Strictly.

With Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo being eliminated from the competition this weekend, Maisie Smith has been able to move into third place. Smith avoided the dance off on Sunday after two consecutive weeks there, with her odds of winning now at 6/1.

Bailey began the show as a 50/1 outsider, but has since become a strong favourite among both the audience and the judges.

However, Bailey found himself in joint second from the bottom during this weekend’s show, drawing with Jamie Laing and Ranvir Singh on 24 points.

The 55-year-old, who is paired with reigning champion Oti Mabuse, has said that he enjoys being praised by the judges for his commitment to dancing, revealing: “I think when I came on the show… a lot of people assumed I was going to be some sort of comedy addition to the whole thing, I was going to dress up in silly costumes, I was going to be no good at it.

“It’s quite gratifying, people realising I am taking it seriously and giving it 100 per cent because I want to do justice to the dance, I want to do justice to Oti’s hard work in the training room and also to the show. This is about dance and trying to bring the best out of you.”

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Bill’s been odds-on for Strictly success for some time now and with the final fast approaching, it’s going to take something pretty special to stop him from winning.”
