The Memphis Grizzlies acquired forward Matt Barnes in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Grizzlies will embrace Barnes’ tough-guy persona, which will fit perfectly into Memphis’ fierce group. Barnes, 35, has been an 11-year journeyman who brings some volatility to the wing position.

Charlotte had acquired Barnes earlier this month in a trade that sent Lance Stephenson to the Los Angeles Clippers. Barnes averaged 10.1 points and four rebounds while making 36.2 percent of his 3-pointers last season with the Clippers.

The Grizzlies sent the non-guaranteed deal of Luke Ridnour to Charlotte. It is likely the Hornets will waive Ridnour before his contract is guaranteed for the 2015-16 season, sources said.

The Los Angeles Clippers traded Barnes to Charlotte as part of a package for Lance Stephenson this month. The $1.2 million owed Barnes for the upcoming season is guaranteed.
