The Sims 4 has reverted many of the controversial Build Mode changes on consoles, but further changes have led to some fresh complaints.

Back in January, the PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game received an update that saw various adjustments aimed at improving navigation with a controller. At the time, the new controls sparked a significant backlash and were described as being "frustrating" to use, with calls for navigation to go back to how it was before.

This week's base game update addresses this, with "some previous functionality" being restored.

While this part of the update has been warmly received by console players, some controller remapping changes for Live Mode have turned out to be divisive.

One key change involves changing what the bumper and trigger buttons do. With this update, the bumper buttons switch between Sims while the triggers alter the game speed. The patch notes explain that this tweak was done to provide consistency between Create-a-Sim and Live Modes.

There are other controller changes as well, but many players who have been leaving comments in the Answers HQ feedback thread have said they're struggling with the remapped controls.

"We have been playing the same way for years and it is ingrained in our muscle memory," said one player. "Now we are suddenly speeding up our game instead of switching Sims."

Some have suggested that the button remapping should be made optional, so that long-time players can continue playing with the controls that they're used to.

There's also a new bug where zooming in or out with the camera affects the game speed and un-pauses the game. This prevents players from being able to take screenshots properly.

Elsewhere, new shortcuts have been added for CAS Mode, allowing for Simmers to be able to bring up the Identity panel and add or remove Sims more easily.

The timing of the latest update coincides with this week's launch of the Grunge Revival and Book Nook Kits, which add grunge-inspired fashion and reading-themed Build Buy items respectively.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
