The future of Andreas Christensen has been one of the talking points at Barcelona in this January transfer window.

The Dane, after recovering from an injury, struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team option for Hansi Flick’s team, which led to speculation over his future at the club.

Clubs from the Serie A and Premier League were even interested in signing Christensen in this January transfer window. But any hopes of a potential sale were tarnished following the defender’s fresh injury – effectively ruling him out for three more weeks.

However, in an interesting development, it appears Saudi Arabia has taken up an interest in Christensen and are trying a move for the Barcelona defender.

This is according to Gerard Romero, who suggests that Christensen is among the few first-team members still in contention for a potential sale.

Saudi Arabia’s interest comes even after the Dane’s fresh injury blow that ruled him out for almost a month.

This could come as a promising sign for Barça, who are counting on the defender’s exit to help them reduce the stress on the balance sheet.

Christensen’s sale would also look good from a pure business perspective, as the Dane was signed on a free transfer. Any sale, therefore, could come off as direct profit for Barça.

That said, there is not much information given as far as Saudi Arabia’s interest in Christensen is concerned. And given the defender’s fitness woes, it is not completely ruled out that he spends the remainder of the campaign at Barcelona.
