Clemson’s depth at wide receiver has taken a hit.
Multiple outlets reported that Amari Rodgers suffered a serious injury during practice on Monday. According to TigerNet, which first reported the news, Rodgers was “carried off the field.” On Tuesday, Tiger Illustrated reported that the program’s fears were confirmed: Rodgers tore his ACL.

Though he was overshadowed by the stellar play of Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins during Clemson’s College Football Playoff triumph, Rodgers was a steady presence throughout the year for the Tigers.
He was second on the team with 55 receptions for 575 yards and four touchdowns in 2018. He also served as the main punt returner, averaging 7.7 yards per return on 39 attempts, including a touchdown in the win over Boston College. Rodgers earned honorable mention All-ACC as an all-purpose player for his efforts.
With Hunter Renfrow moving on to the NFL, Rodgers was slated to move into the slot while Ross and Higgins play on the outside.

Clemson has plenty of young talent at wide receiver
If Rodgers is sidelined for a long period of time, Clemson has plenty of talent with an opportunity to move up the depth chart.
Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney did not mention Rodgers’ injury when meeting with reporters Monday night, but did say freshmen early enrollees Joseph Ngata and Frank Ladson are “as ready as any freshmen we’ve had come through here.” With Clemson’s history of top-notch receivers — like first-round NFL draft choices Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins and Mike Williams — that’s quite a statement from Swinney.
Clemson also returns Derion Kendrick (15 catches for 210 yards) and Cornell Powell (five catches for 63 yards) at receiver, though Kendrick has been seeing time on defense as well.
Next man up.
