Report: Bears to interview Gerald Chatman for defensive line coach
The Chicago Bears continue their work to put together the rest of their coaching staff, with most of the focus coming on the offensive and defensive line coaching vacancies.
There has been rumors of hirings for the defensive line this week, but nothing official has been announced, and the Bears are reportedly still holding interviews with candidates.
According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, the Bears are set to interview current University of Florida defensive line coach Gerald Chatman for the same role. A long-time coaching veteran, Chatman spent the 2024 season with the Gators after spending the previous year with the Tulane Green Wave, and has previous stops with LSU, Colorado, and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Last season with the Gators, Chatman saw elevated production out of his unit as Florida recorded 39 sacks. The total amount of sacks ranked fourth in the SEC, and they also recorded 86 tackles for loss, good enough for eighth best in the conference.
In his previous stops at Tulane and Florida, Chatman has led his units to increased production while being raved and respected by the players on his roster. If he were to be hired by the Bears, Chatman would have an opportunity to work with former Gator, Gervon Dexter Sr., as well as Montez Sweat, DeMarcus Walker, Andrew Billings and any other potential additions this offseason.
