Real live penguins hit the ice before Penguins-Flyers outdoor game (Video)
PITTSBURGH – Before the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers dropped the puck for Saturday night’s Stadium Series game at Heinz Field, some actual real live penguins needed to make an appearance first.
The penguins, named Crosby, Kessel, Kunitz, Letang, Malkin, Murray and Sully, all left their home at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium and waddled their way out on to the auxiliary rink behind the player’s benches and interacted with Penguins mascot IceBurgh. One took a bit of a face plant, but he shook it off right away.
The appearance of the seven penguins named after real Penguins players and their head coach ultimately proved that bringing live animals to an event is a sure way to entertain fans.
These penguins behaved themselves while waddling around on the ice, unlike Vicky the condor, who went on a rampage in 2013 before a Bakersfield Condors game.
