NHL roundup: Pastrnak hat trick leads Bruins in rout

David Pastrnak scored his second career hat trick, Jake DeBrusk added two goals and Patrice Bergeron had three assists as the Boston Bruins cruised to an 8-2 victory over the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Saturday afternoon. Anders Bjork had a goal and an assist, Charlie McAvoy and Sean Kuraly also scored goals and Brad Marchand, Brandon Carlo and David Krejci each had two assists for Boston, which has won four in a row since a season-opening 7-0 loss at defending Stanley Cup champion Washington. The Bruins have outscored their opponents 22-6 during the streak. Tuukka Rask had 32 saves for the Bruins, who improved to 15-1-1 in their last 17 games against Detroit, including seven wins in a row. Filip Hronek scored the first goal of his NHL career, and Dylan Larkin added a short-handed goal for Detroit. Jonathan Bernier had 31 saves for the winless Red Wings, who are off to their worst start since beginning 0-5 in the 1980-81 season. Golden Knights 1, Flyers 0 Cody Eakin scored with 1:25 remaining in the third period, and Vegas ended a three-game losing streak with a win at Philadelphia. Eakin fired a shot from the left circle for his second goal of the season on a pass from Ryan Carpenter. The Golden Knights needed a spectacular save by goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who sprawled across the crease to get his glove on a shot by Philadelphia's Claude Giroux with 38 seconds left. Oilers 2, Rangers 1 Connor McDavid scored a power-play goal 6:23 into the third period and added an assist as Edmonton picked up its first win of the season at New York. McDavid has either scored or assisted on all of Edmonton's five goals this season. He recorded the secondary assist on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' first goal of the season in the opening period. McDavid scored the tiebreaking goal when he put a backhander -- after getting a cross-ice pass from Leon Draisaitl while positioned at the left side of the net -- in the low slot off Henrik Lundqvist's left leg. Senators 5, Kings 1 Chris Wideman enjoyed his first career two-goal game, scoring in the first and third periods for host Ottawa in a rout of Los Angeles. Wideman's multi-goal effort came in his 161st career game and one day shy of the anniversary of his last goal. Chris Tierney, Mark Stone and Colin White also scored for the Senators, who raced out to a 4-0 lead midway through the second period and were never threatened. Goalie Craig Anderson recorded 36 saves as Ottawa snapped a two-game losing streak. Hurricanes 5, Wild 4 (OT) Sebastian Aho's second goal 2:57 into overtime lifted Carolina over Minnesota at Saint Paul, Minn. Justin Williams' goal -- the captain's first of the season -- with 1:09 remaining in regulation forced overtime. Aho picked up his second assist of the night on the tally. Jordan Staal and Brett Pesce also scored for the Hurricanes, who matched their best five-game start in franchise history with a 4-0-1 record. Mikael Granlund scored with 4:13 left in the third period to give the Wild a short-lived 4-3 lead. Minnesota goalie Devan Dubnyk made 52 saves in defeat. Canadiens 4, Penguins 3 (SO) Paul Byron and Jonathan Drouin scored shootout goals as Montreal edged visiting Pittsburgh. The Canadiens received two goals and an assist from Tomas Tatar, and Brendan Gallagher added a goal and an assist. Antti Niemi made 25 saves and stopped Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby in the decisive shootout. Kris Letang and Phil Kessel each registered a goal and an assist, and Malkin added two assists for the Penguins. Dominik Simon also scored for Pittsburgh. Casey DeSmith stopped 37 of 40 Montreal shots. Lightning 8, Blue Jackets 2 Tampa Bay skated to a three-goal, first-period lead and cruised past visiting Columbus. Brayden Point had two goals for the Lightning, and Victor Hedman, Cedric Paquette, Yanni Gourde, Alex Killorn, Nikita Kucherov and J.T. Miller also scored. Canucks 3, Panthers 2 Bo Horvat scored the go-ahead goal with 13:49 left in the third period as Vancouver defeated Florida at Sunrise, Fla. Horvat, skating on the left side, took a nifty backhand, cross-ice pass from Sven Baertschi before scoring his third goal of the season. Elias Pettersson and Antoine Roussel also tallied for the Canucks. Jonathan Huberdeau and Vincent Trocheck scored for the Panthers, who have yet to earn a win in three games this season and are 0-for-12 on the power play during that span. Maple Leafs 4, Capitals 2 Josh Leivo scored his first goal of the season on a power play in the third period to break a tie and help visiting Toronto down Washington. Auston Matthews added his 10th goal of the season late in the third to clinch Toronto's fourth straight win. He also had an assist. Kasperi Kapanen and Par Lindholm scored the Maple Leafs' first two goals. Chandler Stephenson and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored for the Capitals. Alex Ovechkin had two assists. Predators 5, Islanders 2 Calle Jarnkrok, Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson scored late in the first period as host Nashville cruised past New York. Kyle Turris scored in the third period while Forsberg added an empty-netter for the Predators, who completed a quick season sweep of the Islanders. Nashville beat New York, 4-3, in the latter's home opener on Oct. 6. Brock Nelson and Andrew Ladd scored for the Islanders, who began a four-game Western Conference road swing. Stars 5, Ducks 3 John Klingberg's power-play goal late in the second period capped a four-goal explosion by Dallas, which overcame a shaky start to rally past visiting Anaheim. Klingberg, who also had an assist, put the Stars on top with 2:14 to play in the second period when he took a pass from Alexander Radulov and fired a long shot from the point that found the back of the net through traffic. Radulov, Connor Carrick, Jamie Benn and Radek Faksa also scored for Dallas, which outshot the Ducks 51-25. Jakob Silfverberg, Kiefer Sherwood and Adam Henrique each scored for the Ducks, who were up 3-0 at the 8:09 mark of the second period. Blackhawks 4, Blues 3 (OT) Alex DeBrincat scored with nine seconds remaining in overtime to lift Chicago over visiting St. Louis. DeBrincat finished with a pair of goals for Chicago, which became the first team in NHL history to go to overtime in five straight games to start the season. Artem Anisimov and Patrick Kane also scored for the Blackhawks, and goaltender Cam Ward made 35 saves to earn the victory. Brayden Schenn scored twice for St. Louis, which had to settle for a point after leading for much of the third period. David Perron also scored for the Blues, who lost to the Blackhawks in overtime for the second time in eight days despite 46 saves from goaltender Jake Allen. Sabers goalie Linus Ullmark made 36 saves for his first career shutout in his first start of the season as the Sabres improved to 8-2-1 in their last 11 games against the Coyotes and 9-2 in their last 11 games at Gila River Arena. The Coyotes have been shut out in three of their first four games and have not scored an even-strength goal all season. Flames 3, Avalanche 2 (OT) Johnny Gaudreau scored on a breakaway 46 seconds into overtime as Calgary rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Colorado at Denver. Elias Lindholm, who tied it with a goal with 1:54 left in regulation, and Sam Bennett also scored for Calgary. David Rittich finished with 24 saves for the Flames. Nathan MacKinnon and J.T. Compher scored goals for Colorado, which lost at Pepsi Center for just the fifth time in its last 26 games (20-5-1) dating back to last season.
