Report: Capitals’ Tom Wilson has mega-suspension trimmed to 14 games

An arbitrator has reportedly ruled that Wilson’s 20-game suspension will be reduced to 14 games, meaning that he’s now free to once again slot into the Washington Capitals lineup, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. Now 16 games into the season, nothing can be done to account for the extra two games lost as a part of the initial suspension for landing a devastating blindside hit on St. Louis’s Oskar Sundqvist, but Wilson will reportedly be compensated for the difference and recoup more than $378,000 in lost wages. ‘We’re not done here’: NHL alumni head vows to continue concussion fight

“This is not the end game,” said NHL Alumni Association executive director Glenn Healy after reaching a settlement with the NHL in a concussion lawsuit filed by more than 100 former players. “We’re not done here. The alumni are going to dig in with this. It’s a step in the right direction today to try and get some help and hope back for players.” [More]

Who will make up 2019 Hockey Hall of Fame class?

With the 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame class having been inducted last night, it’s never too early to start speculating on who could be part of next year’s group. And while there are many deserving candidates, there’s one player who’s a near-lock to crack the 2019 group of inductees. Hayley Wickenheiser owns four Olympic gold medals representing Canada, plus seven more golds from the IIHF World Championships. After losing three straight games, giving up four goals per night each time, the New York Islanders fell from No. 13 to No. 25 in the latest edition of Yahoo Sports’ NHL power rankings. “The Great One” has weighed in on William Nylander’s contract situation, and he’s not shying away from picking a side. “Ultimately, I think [William Nylander] has to sit down and say look. Lundqvist ties Plante on NHL wins list, Rangers beat Canucks

Filip Chytil and Brett Howden scored to back Lundqvist’s 437th career win as the Rangers beat the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 Monday night. The Sharks are in a position that’s familiar to the Nashville Predators. San Jose is 9-6-3 in 18 games after acquiring two-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson in a blockbuster trade.
