Dana Frost is used to seeing her son, Morgan, put the puck in the back of night.

Over the last few years, she has seen him excel offensively with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. The 2017 first round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers scored 42 goals and collected 112 points in 67 games to finish second in league scoring last season. This year, his 20 twine-ticklers and league-leading 38 assists have him sitting third in the OHL’s point department.

His play is a big reason why the Greyhounds currently sit second in the Western Conference with a record of 21-8-4-1, two points behind the London Knights.

However, despite all of the offensive success that has come Frost’s way, his mother has never seen him score three goals in a single junior contest. In his 231 regular season games over three-and-a-half seasons in the OHL, he has had 14 two-goal performances, according to Frank Seravalli of TSN. For one reason or another, though, a hat trick has been elusive.

Within the first 22 minutes of his debut wearing a Team Canada jersey on Boxing Day, he had three goals to his name and an entire country talking him.

Following a beautiful deke to opening the game’s scoring, he ripped a wrist shot past Denmark’s Mads Sogaard with 47 seconds remaining in the first period to give Canada a 3-0 advantage.

With his side up 4-0 early in the second, Frost triggered the tossing of caps 1:50 into the frame. As the ice at Rogers Arena filled with hats and Canadians in the stands celebrated, it was tough to find anyone more excited to part with their headgear than Frost’s mom.

It may have been a day late, but that’s a pretty fantastic Christmas gift for a son to give to his mother. In fact, it really puts the box to tea that I gave my mother this year to shame.

Frost’s three goals, along with the two assists he picked up, propelled his side to a 14-0 victory over the Danes and put him atop the tournament’s scoring leaderboard.

On a completely unrelated side note that can’t be ignored, how much does Morgan Frost look like Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris?
