It’s often a feeling out process when the Memorial Cup first gets underway. In most of the preliminary round games, two elite junior teams from different corners of the country are seeing each other for the very first time.

However, this was hardly the case between two eager adversaries from the Prince Albert Raiders and Halifax Mooseheads.

Maybe the biggest collision that we’ll see in the tournament — and one of the craziest from the entire hockey season — happened a few shifts into the Memorial Cup opener on Friday night.

That’s Prince Albert’s Max Martin flipping the Mooseheads’ Keith Getson perpendicular with a competitive bump on the forecheck. The contact sent the Halifax centre crashing into the endboards — nearly halfway up the glass.

While the collision was spectacular, Getson was certainly fortunate to escape without a significant injury. Looking closer, Martin’s skate nearly nicked Getson while on his descent.
