There a Major Change Coming to 'Battle on the Beach' Season 3

Just in time for sunny summer weather, HGTV's Battle on the Beach returns with six new episodes, premiering Sunday, June 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. And the big news: Renovation Island's Sarah and Bryan Baeumler are judging this round.

If you missed the first two seasons of Battle on the Beach, the premise is this: Three teams of up-and-coming home renovators compete to add the most value to a trio of two-bedroom, two-bath seaside properties in Gulf Shores, Alabama. They have a $90,000 budget to make it happen, plus a helping hand from their coaches — HGTV design experts Taniya Nayak (Build it Forward), Ty Pennington (Rock the Block) and Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab). The judges, along with a team of local real estate experts, decide who takes home the $50,000 cash prize.

Fans were thrilled to learn that the husband-and-wife stars of Renovation Island, Sarah and Bryan, are serving as judges for the competition this season. Earlier this year, the couple had a disappointing run as competitors on Rock the Block season 4, but for this coastal assignment, they are firmly in their territory. (After all, they did revive a 10-acre Bahamas resort.)

New judges are not the only twist for Battle on the Beach season 3. This time around, instead of three identical homes, one of the properties will have an extra 200 square feet (whether that's a good thing or bad thing is TBD). A kick-off challenge will decide who gets the bigger property before the teams dive into their kitchen and dining room makeovers in episode one.

The team to watch? It's too soon to say who will rise to the challenge: married couple Ryan and Kelsey Mansingh of Ohio, friends Ashley Basnight and Steve Lewis of Oklahoma, or friends Ben Argall and Pete Meldrum of Michigan. But you might want to keep an eye on whichever team Ty is coaching. Coaches Taniya and Alison already have a Battle on the Beach win to their names, so we have an inkling that Ty is particularly motivated this time.
