Join us: Live, virtual Q&A with medical experts who will answer your questions

This is an uncomfortable moment in the coronavirus pandemic. Yes, it still is a pandemic, even though it’s started to feel like business as usual.

But not so fast. The virus that causes COVID-19 still is circulating widely and Ada, Canyon, Adams, Valley and a host of other counties in Idaho are designated high-risk by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. People still are getting sick, going to hospitals and dying. So as school gets underway and cooler weather sends people indoors, we decided to convene our expert panel for a Live Q&A.

Dr. Christine Hahn, Dr. David Pate and Dr. Patrice Burgess will bring us up to date and help us understand where we are in the fight against the coronavirus.

If you’ve got a question, you can ask it in advance when you register for this free, virtual event.

Join us for this live, virtual event at IdahoStatesman.com at noon Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Our panel:

  • Dr. Patrice Burgess is a family medicine physician currently serving as an Executive Medical Director for System Clinical Integration and Health Informatics for Saint Alphonsus Health System. She is a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Coronavirus Testing, and also the chairwoman of the Governor’s Coronavirus Vaccine Advisory Committee.

  • Dr. Christine Hahn is Idaho’s state epidemiologist and the Division of Public Health’s medical director. She is board certified in infectious disease and serves on the Center for Disease Control’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Since February 2020, she has been focusing almost solely on our state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Dr. David Pate led Idaho’s largest medical system, St. Luke’s, for a decade and retired in 2020. He is a member of the Governor’s Coronavirus Working Group and recently co-authored a book, “Preparing for the Next Pandemic: Lessons, Stories and Recommendations,” (Johns Hopkins University Press).

If you have questions about how the omicron BA.5 variant is different from the original SARS-CoV-2 strain, what to know before sending kids to the classroom, or anything else concerning the virus, you can ask them here.
