Game Fifty Preview: Kings @ Lightning

The Los Angeles Kings head into their fourth of a five-game road trip taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

This is the second and final meeting of the 2024-25 NHL Regular Season between these two clubs. The Kings pulled out a 2-1 victory at home on January 4, 2025. During that contest, Kings Defenseman Joel Edmundson took a scary hit by Lightning Forward Zemgus Girgensons which sidelined the former for three games. To be out of action for only three games shows just how tough of a customer Edmundson is!

This is the second game of a back-to-back for the LA Kings who are 5-1-0 in game two, this season.

Tampa Bay have done well at home with a 15-7-1 record.

FOEG’ET ABOUT IT!

Kings Forward Warren Foegele has squared off against the Lightning twenty times in his career. In his first matchup against Tampa Bay on October 16, 2018, Foegele finished the night with one assist in 15:09 TOI.

In the fourteen matchups that followed, Foegele was held without a point.

After that slump, he found the scoresheet three consecutive times on November 8, 2022, January 19, 2023, and November 18, 2023, registering one point in each contest (1G, 2A).

In their last two meetings, he has again been held without a point.

Foegele has only registered two points (1G, 1A) in twelve games played throughout the month of January.

Warren Foegele in Seasons Past:

January 2024: 11GP – 3G – 4A – 7P

January 2023: 9GP – 1G – 2A – 3P

January 2022: 10GP – 0G – 4A – 4P

Statistics, schmatistics! Just go out there and do your thing, Foegy!

'BOUT IT, 'BOUT IT

Since being blanked against the Kings on January 4, 2025, Lightning Forward Nikita Kucherov has recorded a point in twelve of thirteen contests (6G – 14A – 20P). In the only game he didn't register a point, Tampa Bay were shutout 2-0 by the Detroit Red Wings.

HAVE TO LAF ABOUT IT

On this road trip, Kings Forward Alex Laferriere has had two goals waved off due to play away from the puck. Both goals were pretty and clean which I'm sure adds to the frustration.

To avoid getting bitter, Laferriere needs to laugh it off and keep shooting.

Puck drop is slated for 4:05 PM PST. You can watch the game on television via the FanDuel Sports Network or listen live with the ESPN LA app.
