Former Jets Forward Receives PTO With AHL Team

Former Winnipeg Jets forward Sam Gagner has signed a professional tryout with the Ottawa Senators' AHL team.

The 35-year-old played just three games of hockey this season before signing the PTO with the Belleville Senators. Those three games were with Canada at the Spengler Cup where he captained the team to a semi-finals loss.

He's played two games with the Senators and has recorded one assist. Throughout his career, Gagner has played 73 games in the AHL, scoring 18 goals and 57 points. He never played any of those games with the Manitoba Moose but did play 48 games with the Jets, recording eight goals and 14 points.

Prior to the beginning of the 2024-25 season, Gagner attended the Carolina Hurricanes training camp on a PTO but did not sign a contract with the Hurricanes. Before he captained Canada at the Spengler Cup, there were rumours that Gagner would sign with an SHL team.

The deal never formulated and now the London, ON native is back playing in Canada.
