Even public bathrooms can't save Serge Ibaka and Danny Green from autograph requests

We’ve all been there. You’re out doing whatever, see a face you recognize and say to yourself, ‘oh my gosh, that’s (insert the name of a famous person or athlete here)’.

At that moment, you have a choice to make. Either you move on with your life after a few more glances in their direction, or you introduce yourself to potentially ask for a quick photo and/or autograph.

As people that are in the spotlight constantly, professional athletes know that this is part of the job. However, as Danny Green and Serge Ibaka of the Toronto Raptors discussed in a recent episode of The Green Room, some fans don’t quite know the most appropriate time to make such a request.

“They might follow you into the bathroom… and they’ll try to make conversation at the wrong time,” said Green. “It happened before, at the urinal was actually where and I’m like, ‘let me wash my hands first’. Let me talk to you after I wash my hands and then we’ll figure out autographs or a picture situation.”

When it comes to getting an autograph from Ibaka, the big man from the Republic of Congo has a soft spot.

“When it’s kids, I cannot say no to kids,” said the Raptors centre.

Although that’s obviously the correct approach, it has put him in some uncomfortable positions in the past.

People! There’s a time and a place to ask these questions to these people. Even though it shouldn’t have to be said, while they’re taking care of business in the bathroom is not that time.
