The Dolphins are signing outside linebacker Malik Reed to a one-year deal, his agent Mike McCartney announced Saturday, bringing in a player who had his best season under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio with the Denver Broncos.

The 26-year-old Reed just completed his first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, recording 25 tackles and one sack in 14 games (two starts). But he spent his first three seasons with the Broncos, with whom he signed as a rookie free agent out of Nevada after the 2019 NFL Draft. Fangio was Denver’s head coach and defensive play-caller from 2019 to 2021. Reed started 34 games and recorded 15 sacks over three years with the Broncos. In 2020, he led Denver with a career-high eight sacks opposite current Dolphins outside linebacker Bradley Chubb, who was named to the Pro Bowl that season with a 7.5-sack campaign.

Reed, 6-2 and 235 pounds, is set to join an outside linebacker room that includes Chubb and Jaelan Phillips but not much depth behind them. Andrew Van Ginkel, Melvin Ingram and Trey Flowers are outside free agents. Van Ginkel has reportedly visited the New England Patriots and has plans to meet with the Las Vegas Raiders. Cameron Goode, a seventh-round pick in the 2022 Draft, is also under contract for 2023 but spent all of last season on the practice squad.

Reed is the fourth defensive player to join the Dolphins this offseason, along with cornerback Jalen Ramsey, inside linebacker David Long Jr. and safety DeShon Elliott. Miami has also re-signed inside linebacker Duke Riley and cornerback Nik Needham.
