Why The NHL Significantly Increasing The Salary Cap Is Good News For The Canucks

Starting with Hughes, he was asked for a reaction to the trade. Hughes and Miller had played together for the last six seasons and will be teammates in a few weeks at the 4 Nations Face-Off. During his response, Hughes touched on a few points, including some of the rumours surrounding the organization since the start of 2025.

"Obviously, a lot of noise the last couple of weeks and months said Hughes." "Seeing him go, he's a heck of a hockey player, and I enjoyed playing with him for the six years I had. Obviously, wish him the best. Personally, I will see him in six, seven days. Right now, it doesn't even seem real, but next couple of weeks, I'm sure it will sink in a bit."

Murphy followed up by asking Hughes specifically about the noise. Hughes responded with, "Yeah, of course. I think not just myself but everyone in the organization. There has been a lot of noise. For Milsey, too, it's been a lot for him. I think he is looking forward to a fresh start but, you know, we are going to miss him here. A lot of compete and played some good hockey for us. In saying that, now we have to focus on the guys we do have here."

Pettersson was next and was asked about the rift between him and Miller. Pettersson responded with, "I don't want to get into that. All we can do is look forward. I don't know what to say; all we can do is look forward."

As for the follow-up, Pettersson was asked about some positive moments he had while playing with Miller. He responded with, "I think we've had some really good moments. Playoffs my second year and the playoffs last year. A player that, I think, made both of us better."

Lastly, Tocchet spoke with the media and was asked for his thoughts on the trade. When asked about trading away Miller, Tocchet said, "It's a business, you know the way it is. When you are in this business long enough, there are gonna be things like that. I thought the guys handled it well. Milsey was a big part of the team. It was an emotional thing, but it's a business, right? Things happen."

Tocchet was also asked about Miller as a player and said, "Milsey's played great hockey for the Canucks and myself. Obviously, a heart and soul guy. I think he is going to do well there."

Vancouver is back in action Sunday afternoon when they take on the Detroit Red Wings. The Canucks will also be holding a media availability with GM Patrik Allvin on Saturday. Game time for Saturday's game is scheduled for 5:00 pm PT from Rogers Arena.
