The site of the Big 12’s reincarnated championship game is no surprise.

The conference said Friday the title game would be held in Dallas at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas was reportedly a finalist to host the game along with Kansas City and San Antonio.

The agreement with AT&T Stadium goes through 2021.

“There is great anticipation with the return of the Big 12 Football Championship and we look forward to hosting the event in AT&T Stadium for the next five years,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in a statement. “The building is a state of the art facility and offers many amenities that will be enjoyed by our institutions and fans.”

Dallas made the most sense for the conference as it’s within reasonable driving distance for eight of the league’s 10 schools. Kansas City is more centrally-located for Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State, but we all know there are much better odds of the title game featuring Texas and Oklahoma teams.

The conference is bringing back the title game in 2017 following the NCAA’s deregulation of title game criteria. Ever since going to 10 teams in 2011, the Big 12 had been prevented from hosting a title game until the 12-team minimum was whacked earlier this year.

If the title game was in effect for this season, there would be a great chance it could feature the same game in two weeks. If Oklahoma beats West Virginia and loses to Oklahoma State on Nov. 26, the two Oklahoma teams would meet again in the championship game a week later.
