The 2022 BET Awards show Sunday was not only a celebration of "Black excellence," but celebrities — including the night's host Taraji P. Henson — used the platform to criticize the Roe v. Wade ruling and amplify women's voices.

Doja Cat entered the show as the leading nominee with six. The chart-topping performer was up for best female R&B-pop artist, best female hip-hop artist, album of the year for her No. 1 hit "Planet Her" and BET Her for "Woman." Her song "Kiss Me More" with SZA was nominated for video of the year and best collaboration.

However, SZA took home no awards.

Drake and Ari Lennox were the second-most nominated acts, scoring four nods each. Three nominations went to several others including Baby Keem, Silk Sonic, Chloe Bailey, Future, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), Kendrick Lamar, Lil Baby, Mary J. Blige and Tems.

Silk Sonic, duo Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, took home the most combined wins. The pair received all three honors they were nominated for including best group and album of the year for "An Evening with Silk Sonic," while .Paak took home the award for video director of the year.

Lamar took home the award for best male hip-hop artist, beating out Drake, and best video for "Family Ties" with Baby Keem. Sullivan took home the award for best female R&B/pop artist, beating out Doja Cat, Blige and H.E.R.

Sean "Diddy" Combs, the man of the night, was honored with the ceremony's Lifetime Achievement Award. Following a jam-packed tribute performance, featuring the likes of Jodeci, Lil Kim and Diddy himself, an unrecognizable Ye, rocking a mask covering his entire face, gave an impassioned speech about the 52-year-old rapper, who he called his "brother."

"This man has been through and survived a lot of stuff and broke down a lot of doors so we could be standing (here)," Ye said. "He broke down so many doors of classism, taste, culture, swag."
