Watch Swedish team give up own goal during 5-on-3 power play (Video)
The year 2013 in Chinese culture is known as the Year of the Snake. In the world of hockey, it's been known as the Year of the Own Goal. It's only November and we've already featured enough own goals from across the hockey world to cover a full season or two.
The latest comes from Sunday's Swedish Hockey League game between AIK and Brynas. Early in the first period, with AIK already killing a 5-on-3, they took another. With the delayed call and Brynas still holding possession of the puck, they attempted to take advantage, but a pass from the goal line back out to the point ended in disaster:
If you're scoring at home, Jonas Liwing was given credit with the goal for AIK.
It wasn't even like it was that much of an errant pass by Greg Scott or took a deflection on its way out to the point; it just appeared to be a combination of a hard pass and Simon Bertilsson a half second too slow to receive it.
But the early shock wouldn't throw Brynas off their game. Scott would make up for it scoring a power play goal 1:39 later to help his side come out victorious 5-2.
