Tyler Toffoli gets two-year bridge deal from LA Kings

LA Kings GM Dean Lombardi had two big restricted free agents to worry about as July 1 approached. Now he’s down to one after Friday’s news hours before the start of the NHL Draft.

The Kings have handed forward Tyler Toffoli a two-year bridge contract worth $2.6 million next season and $3.9 million in 2016-17. The deal carries a $3.25 million cap hit, according to ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun.

Toffoli is coming off a 23-goal, 49-point season and only turned 23 in April.

It’s a good deal for both sides. Toffoli gets a decent payday and the ability to cash in big after two years and the Kings tie down a key young piece of the roster and avoid having him go to market and be subject to potential offer sheets.

Next up for Lombardi are three decisions: Re-signing UFA Andrej Sekera; re-signing or dealing RFA Martin Jones; and figuring out what to do with Mike Richards with the buyout deadline coming on Tuesday.
