New Avalanche scoreboard inside Pepsi Center puts others to shame (Photo)

Not a mockup. That's a photo from Tuesday.

On Sunday night when the Dallas Cowboys host the New York Giants, it will be the fifth year of the 180' x 72' video scoreboard inside AT&T Stadium. That seemed to set the trend in sports that bigger is better. The Tampa Bay Lightning joined the race last season with their 28' x 50' foot display inside Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Now it's the Colorado Avalanche's turn to get in on the act as Pepsi Center's new scoreboard will be the "largest of its kind in the world" and will "feature one of the largest square footage viewing areas of any indoor scoreboard currently used in the world." It will be made up of two screens about 27' x 47' and two others about 21' x 25'. The two main sides will feature 1080p HD screens that will sit the distance between both blue lines.

From Pepsi Center:

The new scoreboard will bring a superior viewing experience to fans in all seating locations of Pepsi Center. The new end-facing video displays will be more than 300 percent larger than the old displays, and the new center displays will provide a video image that is more than 800 percent larger than the previous display. Additionally, the new board will be capable of handling limitless configurations for displaying live action, game statistical information and animations. While the previous scoreboard displayed standard definition resolution, the new board will display HD content which required a complete re-build of the arena’s video production studio facilities. Altitude HD produced game action and Altitude quality segments will be featured in all game presentations.

Imagine what Pierre McGuire will think when he works his first Avs game this season?MONSTER!

We hope that at some point the Avs will take advantage of this opportunity and have nights where fans can come watch hockey movies or even hold a giant NHL 14 tournament on the huge screens.
