Josh Freeman signs with...Brooklyn?

Former first-round pick Josh Freeman is headed to a most unlikely place to keep his football career going: Brooklyn.

The Brooklyn Bolts, a member of the FXFL - Fall Experimental Football League - announced today that Freeman, who is still just 27 years old and who has started 60 NFL games, has signed with the club.

The 17th overall pick in 2009, taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Freeman became the team's full-time starter midway through his rookie season and started 59 of the next 60 games. A bad relationship with then-Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano led to the team benching him as starter after three games in 2013; he was released not long after. Freeman has since bounced from Minnesota to the Giants to Miami. Freeman was released by the Dolphins earlier this month.

Freeman's rookie contract was for five years and $26 million, with $10.245 million guaranteed. FXFL players make about $1,000 a game.
