WR Corey Robinson evaluating Notre Dame future after concussions

Notre Dame wide receiver Corey Robinson must decide his football future after suffering three concussions in the past year, including one early in the spring that has kept him out of the latter half of spring football.

Coach Brian Kelly said Robinson, who is the son of Pro Basketball Hall of Famer David Robinson, and his family met with Dr. Jeff Kutcher, the national director of the Sports Neurology Clinic, last week to get more information about his situation to help make an informed decision. Kelly said he expects to know something about Robinson’s future before the team begins workouts in June.

"Corey had a meeting with Dr. Kutcher, who we feel is one of the best," Kelly said Friday. "... His family was with him. And I think it was an extremely educational meeting for him. I'm very hesitant to go into the details because I think that's a private matter for Corey.

"But I know this: That he came back feeling really good about the meeting, and I think a decision will be forthcoming relative to what his future is. It was great that we were able to get him with somebody with that kind of knowledge, and I know he feels a whole lot better about that meeting."

Robinson’s interest in playing football his senior season has been questioned this spring. Robinson was recently elected Notre Dame's student-body president. While Robinson talked about his ability to balance his government role with football, Kelly questioned where football would fit into Robinson's schedule.

Robinson played in 12 games last season and caught 16 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown. He’s played 38 games in his Notre Dame career and has 65 catches for 896 yards and seven touchdowns. He’d be Notre Dame's leading returning receiver is he comes back for the 2016 season.
