NASCAR driver Darrell Wallace practices with Tennessee

NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Darrell Wallace is a huge Tennessee fan. On Wednesday, he got a chance to practice with the Volunteers.

Wallace took part in practice after he did a promotional appearance for the Battle at Bristol on September 10. The game, played at Bristol Motor Speedway, will pit Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech. The track has a capacity of 160,000. If the game sells out, it'll break the single-game college football attendance record.

The teams are playing in the infield at the half-mile concrete oval. To accommodate the field, the track will remove the scoring pylon from the infield.

Wallace's mother ran track at Tennessee. He's been a Vols fan for most of his life and as part of Tennessee's practice Thursday he played with the running backs and the receivers and gave Tennessee coach Butch Jones one of his firesuits. The appearance was possible because all of NASCAR's top three series are off this weekend for Easter.

Wallace is currently 8th in the Xfinity Series standings. The Xfinity Series is NASCAR's No. 2 series, just behind the Sprint Cup Series.
