Former USC QB Ricky Town transfers to Arkansas (Updated)

Former USC quarterback Ricky Town has transferred to Arkansas.

“Ricky is a very talented young man who comes from a great family,” Arkansas coach Bret Bielema. “We are very excited to have him join our program. Ricky is the kind of uncommon person we are looking for and will fit into our program athletically, academically and socially.”

Town was given his release from USC on Sunday and was reportedly interested in both Arkansas and Florida. Town visited Fayetteville on Wednesday.

Town told Schad he settled on Arkansas because of his desire to play in a pro-style offense.

Town, a four-star recruit from Ventura, Calif., enrolled early at USC but found himself competing for the third-string spot behind Cody Kessler and Max Browne. Town had actually been committed to Alabama before ultimately signing with the Trojans.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Town will have to sit out the 2015 season, but because he’s enrolling before the school year begins, he’ll be able to use a redshirt year in 2015 and have four years of eligibility remaining.

“I am thrilled to be part of the Razorback family,” Town said in a statement. “The staff and players have made Fayetteville feel like home to me. I can’t wait to get started and help Arkansas win an SEC championship.”
