Giants are giving away an awesome R2-D2 beanie at this year’s ‘Star Wars Day’

This is the droid you're looking for.

The San Francisco Giants are giving away these awesome R2-D2 beanies on Aug. 31 as part of their "Star Wars Day." The first 20,000 fans through the gate of AT&T Park will get one and then be the envy of all their nerdy baseball pals.

"Star Wars Day" has become a fun promotion in recent years, that many teams use, both in MLB and the minor leagues. That usually gives us special jerseys, both cool and creepy, plus on-the-field appearances from Darth Vader and the like. The photos alone are great.

This R2-D2 beanie, though? It's something different for "Star Wars Day" and it's a wonderful addition. As far as hat giveaways go, it definitely beats the Texas Rangers' fedora giveaway on July 27.

What would make the R2-D2 beanie even cooler is if a hologram Willie Mays would shoot out of the S.F. logo and say, "Help us, Tim Hudson, you're our only hope." Oh, that's a little too technologically advanced for a free ballpark giveaway? Fine. The beanie will do.
