Video: Argos Swayze Waters and Jake Reinhart visit a goat dairy, try their hands at milking
CFL players have shown off some interesting hobbies in the past, from blacksmithing to Jeopardy to Elvis impersonation, but until this week, the worlds of Canadian football and dairy goat farming hadn't really intersected. That changed when Toronto Argonauts' punter/kicker Swayze Waters and snapper Jake Reinhart made a visit to River’s Edge Goat Dairy, near Arthur, Ontario. Here's the video of their experience, featuring Waters' passion for goats:
There are some great lines in this, including Waters' "It's goat time," and his explanation of why they made this trip: "I wanted to share my passion for dairy goats with y'all. They're one of the most interesting creatures I've come across. ...The goat in my opinion is the most underappreciated animal known to man." He even goes on a factual discussion: "Dairy goats produce over a thousand litres of milk every year. For the Americans out there, that's a thousand bags of Canadian milk. That's a lot of milk." It is indeed.
It's cool to see Waters and Reinhart hang out with the goats and try (emphasis on the try) to milk them, demonstrating how tough that can be. The dairy staff are pretty into it, too, even renumbering a goat #34 after Waters. When Swayze meets Swayze (no word on if the goat will have to answer a million questions about its name), "There's no denying it, there's a bond."
Reinhart gets his own moment to shine here, too, introducing a baby goat. "This is my baby goat, his name's Kevin. He's a nice guy, he likes long walks on the beach." Attempts to walk Kevin don't work out all that well, though.
One of the best parts of this is at the end, where Waters jokes that "[Argo lineman] Chris Van Zeyl's made an appearance." Compare for yourself:
Guess that's why they call it a goatee...
It's cool to see the Argonauts do an offbeat video like this, and more may be coming. The team's running a contest to win tickets for Friday's game against Edmonton on the YouTube page for this video, encouraging viewers to "Leave a comment with an idea of what adventure Swayze/Jake should do next, and which Argonaut should join them!" Personally, I'll be lobbying for them to remake Road House, or possibly Youngblood...
