Ticats’ OL Tim O’Neill appears in The Roper Show’s latest music video—in an Elvis suit?

It's always fun to see what CFL players do off the gridiron, which can range from blacksmithing to working on oil rigs to involvement with advocacy groups to holding down a second job during the season. ViaDrew Edwards of The Hamilton Spectator, Ticats' offensive lineman Tim O'Neill has given us one of the most unusual entries yet, though, appearing in a music video for Victoria-based band The Roper Show, and doing so dressed in an Elvis suit. Here's the video, which revolves around a girl chasing down band member Jesse Roper with a knife. O'Neill shows up around 2:10 and even gets on stage to play the bass:

And here's another fun one, featuring the song playing over outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage from the video:

How'd O'Neill get involved in this? Well, he's from Victoria too, so that's probably the connection. It's a cool video and an interesting effort, musically, too; Roper (who writes, sings and plays guitar for the band, accompanied by Steve Ling on the drums)'s style has been called "a combination of funk, country and soul," and that sounds about right. (His own description of "Rockin’ danceable country blues" certainly fits too, though.) As for O'Neill, he's proven to be a valuable and steady presence on the CFL field, playing in 104 games over his seven-year career with Edmonton, Calgary and Hamilton thus far. The black and gold may be more familiar to him than the Elvis suit at this point, but hey, you never know. Perhaps a post-CFL career impersonating The King is ahead...
