Three Stars: Andrew Harris, Almondo Sewell and Paris Cotton top Week Three’s billing

Moving on with our Three Stars series, here's a look at Week Three's top offensive, defensive, special teams and Canadian players.

First star/offensive player of the week: Andrew Harris, running back, B.C. Lions: Harris was critical to the Lions' 26-13 road win over Saskatchewan, which was their first victory of the season. He picked up 138 rushing yards on 18 attempts, averaging a remarkable 7.7 yards per carry, and he was also effective in the receiving game, catching five passes for 65 yards. His 203 combined yards represented over half of B.C.'s 356 total offensive yards Sunday, and the Roughriders' inability to contain him was the main part of what led to their demise.

(Honourable mentions: Adarius Bowman, SB, Edmonton; Bo Levi Mitchell, QB, Calgary; Chad Owens, SB, Toronto.)

Second star/defensive player of the week: Almondo Sewell, defensive tackle, Edmonton Eskimos: Sewell wasn't even listed as a starter on the Eskimos' depth chart against the Redblacks, but that was likely for ratio reasons. The fourth-year defensive tackle out of Akron wound up playing plenty of snaps and recorded four tackles and a game-high three sacks in Edmonton's 27-11 win over Ottawa Friday. He generated tons of pressure up the middle and helped limit Redblacks' quarterback Henry Burris to just 134 passing yards. Sewell's been huge for the Eskimos so far this year, recording a team-high and league-high five sacks. If he can keep that up, Edmonton's 3-0 start might just keep getting better.

(Honourable mentions: Charleston Hughes, DE, Calgary; Adam Bighill, LB, B.C.; Chris Randle, DB, Winnipeg.)

Third star/special teams player of the week: Paris Cotton, kick returner, Winnipeg Blue Bombers: Cotton was incredibly consistent in the Bombers' 34-33 win over the Montreal Alouettes Friday, picking up 157 yards on six kick returns, an average of 26.2 yards per return with a long of 51. He gave Winnipeg great field position all night, which helped make a big difference in such a close game. The Bombers are off to a great start and have already matched last year's win total. Continued performances like this from Cotton, a rookie out of Central Michigan, could be key to their sustained success.

(Honourable mentions: Sean Whyte, P/K, Montreal; Swayze Waters, P/K, Toronto; Curtis Steele, KR, Toronto.)

Bonus star/Canadian player of the week: Andrew Harris, RB, B.C. Lions: Harris' dominant performance this week was discussed above, but his path to this point has also been remarkable. Harris came out of the Canadian junior football ranks, an unusual place to find a star running back, but he's developed into one of the few (but growing) number of Canadians to excel at the position. His time in B.C. has had ups and downs over the last five years, but Harris has really developed into a star lately, and when they have a decent line in front of them, he and Stefan Logan give the Lions one of the most feared RB tandems in the league. His performance Saturday helped pull the Lions out of a tailspin, and if he can keep it up, they might win more games even before quarterback Travis Lulay returns.

(Honourable mentions: Anthony Parker, SB, Calgary; Julian Feoli-Gudino, WR, Winnipeg; Mike Renaud, P, Winnipeg.)
