Continuing our Three Stars series, here's a look at the CFL's top performances for Week Six, where a pair of Edmonton Eskimos particularly shone.

First star/defensive player of the week: Patrick Watkins, cornerback, Edmonton Eskimos: Watkins turned in a remarkable showing in Edmonton's 30-5 win over Saskatchewan Friday, recording two interceptions, a sack and five tackles. Yes, one of those interceptions came right at the end of the game off a long throw from backup Tino Sunseri, but the other one was a crucial pick-six off starter Brett Smith that helped determine the course of this game. Watkins was a league all-star with Toronto in 2013, joined Edmonton as a free agent in 2014, and posted another CFL all-star nod last year. The Florida State product seems well on course to possibly earn another league all-star nod this season, posting 23 tackles, three interceptions and a sack so far. He's been a key part of the Eskimos' defensive success.

(Honourable mentions: Eric Norwood, DE, Hamilton; Sam Hurl, LB, Winnipeg; Simoni Lawrence, LB, Hamilton.)

Second star/offensive player of the week: Bo Levi Mitchell, quarterback, Calgary Stampeders: Mitchell threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns in Calgary's 25-22 win over Montreal Saturday, helping the Stampeders recover from an early 17-0 deficit. The Eastern Washington alum was highly efficient in doing so, too, completing 71.9 per cent of his passes. Mitchell's contribution Saturday was especially important considering that Calgary was without star running back Jon Cornish thanks to a broken thumb. Running backs Tory Harrison and Matt Walter did a decent job of filling in for him, picking up 87 yards on 16 carries, but without Cornish, the Stampeders are going to have to lean more heavily on the passing game. On Saturday at least, that worked out fine for them thanks to Mitchell's performance.

(Honourable mentions: Vidal Hazelton, WR, Toronto; Marquay McDaniel, SB, Calgary; Darvin Adams, WR, Winnipeg.)

Third star/special teams player of the week: Grant Shaw, punter/kicker, Edmonton Eskimos: Shaw was very effective in the Eskimos' win over the Roughriders Friday, making all three of his field goal attempts and all three of his extra point attempts. Shaw also averaged 44.8 yards on eight punts. The Saskatchewan product is perfect on his 12 field goal attempts so far this year, although he's missed three extra points. He's second in the league with 47 total kicking points and is averaging a solid 44.6 yards per punt as well.

(Honourable mentions: Stefan Logan, PR/KR, Montreal; Lirim Hajrullahu, P/K, Winnipeg; Richie Leone, P/K, B.C.)

Bonus star/Canadian player of the week: Andrew Harris, running back, B.C. Lions: Harris picked up 117 rushing yards for the Lions in their 23-13 loss to Winnipeg Thursday. It took him 24 carries to get there, so that's an average of 4.8 yards per carry that's not as strong as some of his showings this season, but he was a threat in the passing game as well, adding 50 receiving yards on four catches. Harris, a product of the CJFL's Vancouver Island Raiders, has been B.C.'s most consistent offensive player so far, and a key bright spot for the currently-struggling Lions.

(Honourable mentions: Sam Hurl, LB, Winnipeg; Grant Shaw, P/K, Edmonton; Jerome Messam, RB, Saskatchewan.)
