Here's the latest entry in our Three Stars series, this time looking at Week Sixteen's top showings.

First star/defensive player of the week: Odell Willis, defensive end, Edmonton Eskimos: Willis talked a big game ahead of Monday's clash between Edmonton and Winnipeg, saying that the injury to Bombers' LT Glenn January had him eager to face replacement Jarvis Jones, and he delivered on that hype. Willis was an instrumental part of a pass rush that had Winnipeg quarterbacks Drew Willy and Brian Brohm constantly pressured, hit, or sacked, leading to a dominant 41-9 win for Edmonton (plus a 37-0 halftime lead that tied a leaguerecord). On the day, West Georgia product Willis recorded two sacks, both of which led to fumbles (one of which was recovered for a touchdown by Eskimos' LB Dexter McCoil), but he brought pressure on just about every snap. He's having a great season so far, tying his career-high already with 13 sacks and adding 27 tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. No wonder he's talking himself up for most outstanding player. That might be a stretch, but he's been Edmonton's best defender, and he'll get some discussion for top defensive player leaguewide. He was certainly great Monday.

(Honourable mentions: Bear Woods, LB, Montreal; Dexter McCoil, LB, Edmonton; Geoff Tisdale, DB, Montreal.)

Second star/offensive player of the week: Kevin Glenn, quarterback, B.C. Lions: The Kevin Glenn 2014 Revenge Tour against his former teams continued Saturday, as he had one of his best showings this year against the Ottawa Redblacks (who selected him in last December's expansion draft, but then signed Henry Burris as a free agent and eventually traded Glenn to the Lions at May's rookie draft). On Saturday, the Illinois State alum completed 20 of his 27 passes (giving him a terrific 74.1 per cent completion rate) for 345 yards and three touchdowns. While he didn't have the week's highest yardage total (that would be Ricky Ray's 431 yards in Toronto-Hamilton), Glenn recorded the week's top completion percentage and avoided interceptions. He put on a great show and suggested that the B.C. offence may not be as doomed without Travis Lulay as it once looked.

(Honourable mentions: Ricky Ray, QB, Toronto; Keola Antonin, RB, B.C.; Ernest Jackson, WR, B.C.)

Third star/special teams player of the week: Sean Whyte, punter/kicker, Montreal Alouettes: Whyte has been a recurring presence in these awards, and deservedly so. That was the case again in the Alouettes' 40-9 win over the Roughriders Monday, as Santa Monica Community College/CJFL Big Kahuna Rams product Whyte converted all four of his field-goal attempts and his four extra points and added seven punts with an average of 44.6 yards on each. He's hit 86.5 per cent of his field goal attempts on the year (fifth-best in the league) and is averaging 45.7 yards per punt (fourth-best).

(Honourable mentions: Justin Medlock, P/K, Hamilton; Lirim Hajrullahu, P/K, Winnipeg; Terrell Sinkfield, PR/KR, Hamilton.)

Bonus star/Canadian player of the week: Andy Fantuz, wide receiver, Hamilton Tiger-Cats: While Fantuz's Ticats fell 34-33 to Toronto Friday, he delivered a great effort in a losing cause, catching six passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. The Western alum has 61 catches for 625 yards and three touchdowns on the year.

(Honourable mentions: Sean Whyte, P/K, Montreal; Ricky Foley, DE, Saskatchewan; Shea Emry, LB, Toronto.)
