Continuing our Three Stars series, here's a look at Week 14's top performances.

First star/offensive player of the week: John White, running back, Edmonton Eskimos: White turned in an incredible showing in Edmonton's 24-0 thumping of Saskatchewan Friday, collecting 192 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 17 carries. That's a stunning average of 11.3 yards per carry, meaning the Eskimos averaged a first down every time White carried the ball. The Utah alum is in his second CFL season, and he's only been part of Edmonton's running back rotation so far, but he certainly demonstrated a lot of potential this week.

(Honourable mentions: Jon Cornish, RB, Calgary; Drew Willy, QB, Winnipeg; S.J. Green, SB, Montreal.)

Second star/defensive player of the week: Bear Woods, linebacker, Montreal Alouettes: Woods was huge in Montreal's 15-7 win over Ottawa Friday, racking up nine tackles and a sack and forcing a fumble from Ottawa quarterback Henry Burris. That fumble led to Aaron Lavarias recovering and lateralling to Chip Cox, who tied a CFL record with his fifth fumble return for a touchdown and gave the Alouettes more production than their offence did on the night. (Their other eight points came from two field goals and two singles from Sean Whyte, who we'll get to shortly.) The Troy product's long been known for his name and his hair, but he's making a big impact with his play this year, filling the void Montreal had at middle linebacker following Shea Emry's departure in free agency. On the year, Woods has 46 tackles and four sacks.

(Honourable mentions: Ted Laurent, DT, Hamilton; Keon Raymond, DB, Calgary; Solomon Elimimian, LB, B.C.)

Third star/special teams player of the week: Sean Whyte, punter/kicker, Montreal Alouettes: Whyte's play was also crucial to the Alouettes' victory Friday, as he scored more points (eight) than anyone else in the game. He went two-for-two on field goals and added a punt single and a convert; he also averaged 48.6 yards on seven punts. Whyte had a long path to CFL stardom, playing at the junior college level in the U.S. for the Santa Monica Corsairs, then playing Canadian junior football for the Big Kahuna Rams (now the Langley Rams), being signed by B.C. as a territorial exemption, apprenticing under Paul McCallum and then eventually being traded to Montreal in 2011. Since then, though, he's seen off a host of challengers for the punting and kicking jobs, and has turned into one of the Alouettes' most consistent players. With their offence still struggling, Whyte's production may be crucial to their chances.

(Honourable mentions: Jock Sanders, PR/KR, Calgary; Brett Maher, P/K, Ottawa; Ricky Schmitt, P, B.C.)

Bonus star/Canadian player of the week: Jon Cornish, running back, Calgary Stampeders: Cornish delivered yet another outstanding performance this week in the Stampeders' 14-7 win over B.C. Saturday, rushing for 156 yards on 20 carries (7.8 yards per carry). The Kansas alum (and you can bet the struggling Jayhawks wish they still had him)'s showing proved crucial to the Stampeders' success, as Drew Tate only completed 12 of 23 passes for 162 yards. With regular starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell still out, Calgary's offensive production appears to go through Cornish; Saturday showed that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

(Honourable mentions: Ted Laurent, DT, Hamilton; Sean Whyte, P/K, Montreal; Ryan Hinds, DB, Edmonton.)
