Alouettes' linebacker Bear Woods earned first-star recognition this week.

Moving on with our Three Stars series, here's a look at the top offensive, defensive and special teams performances in Week Eleven.

First star/defensive player of the week: Bear Woods, linebacker, Montreal Alouettes: Montreal beat Hamilton 38-31 Sunday largely thanks to their defence holding them in it despite the offence's early struggles, and Woods' play was an important part of that. Flying around the field from his middle-linebacker slot, the Troy alumnus (who legally changed his name from Jonathan to Bear recently) recorded 10 tackles (the league's highest total this week) and added two sacks. He's been a crucial part for the Alouettes this year, replacing departed star Shea Emry (who signed with Toronto as a free agent in the offseason). Woods told Herb Zurkowsky "I want to make every single tackle" earlier this year, and he certainly lived up to that Sunday.

(Honourable mentions: Shawn Lemon, DE, Calgary; Solomon Elimimian, LB, B.C.; Gabriel Knapton, DE, Montreal.)

Second star/offensive player of the week: Marquay McDaniel, slotback, Calgary Stampeders: McDaniel delivered a great performance against Edmonton Saturday, picking up 124 yards (tied with Edmonton's Adarius Bowman for a league-high) and a touchdown on just four catches. The Hampton product has been a key big-play guy for Calgary this season, recording 41 catches for 614 yards so far (third in the league) and averaging 15 yards per catch.

(Honourable mentions: Adarius Bowman, SB, Edmonton; Jon Cornish, RB, Calgary; Anthony Allen, RB, Saskatchewan.)

Third star/special teams player of the week: James Rodgers, punt returner, Montreal Alouettes: Rodgers' 82-yard punt return for a touchdown was a crucial part of the Alouettes' comeback from a 21-7 halftime deficit against Hamilton Sunday, and it marked his second straight game with a touchdown (after scoring his first CFL TD on a 17-yard fly sweep against Ottawa the previous week). The former Oregon State football and track star and brother of Atlanta Falcons' RB Jacquizz Rodgers (who posted his own ridiculous touchdown this week) is fitting in well north of the border so far.

(Honourable mentions: Weston Dressler, PR/KR, Saskatchewan; Justin Medlock, P/K, Hamilton; Rob Maver, P, Calgary.)

Bonus star/Canadian player of the week: Jon Cornish, running back, Calgary Stampeders: Cornish, last week's First Star, turned in another great performance Saturday against Edmonton, rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. That's a remarkable average of 6.4 yards per carry for the Kansas product. He missed much of the early season this year thanks to a concussion, but is returning to the form that saw him named the league's top player last year. Great things have been happening lately when the Stamps give the ball to Cornish.

(Honourable mentions: Andy Fantuz, SB, Hamilton; Rob Maver, P, Calgary; Simon Charbonneau-Campeau, WR, Calgary.)
