Four top CFL prospects to watch in NCAA bowls this season

The CFL has released its latest ranking of Canadian prospects for the 2016 draft, and there are plenty that fans will be able to get a better look at during the NCAA's upcoming bowl season. Here are the four players in the rankings who have a bowl game ahead, what they've done so far this year, and where you can see them.

1. Tevaun Smith, wide receiver, Iowa: Rose Bowl vs. Stanford, Jan. 1, 5 p.m. Eastern, TSN2/ESPN: Smith was the top-ranked prospect in September, and he's hung onto that ranking thanks to a great season with the Hawkeyes. Iowa went 12-1 and earned a Rose Bowl berth, and Smith finished with 30 catches for 546 yards (second on the team) and three touchdowns. That was slightly below the 596 receiving yards he posted in 2014, but he had 43 catches last year, so his yards per reception rose from 13.9 to 18.2 this year. Smith is likely to draw some NFL interest, but if he doesn't stick there, he could be a great big-play threat for a CFL team. He's Iowa's starting split end (one of their wide receivers). Here's video of him catching a 85-yard TD pass against Michigan State:

3. Josiah St. John, offensive lineman, Oklahoma: Orange Bowl/CFP semifinal vs. Clemson, Dec. 31, 4 p.m. Eastern across TSN channels/ESPN: St. John has moved up from sixth in the September rankings to third in these ones, and he's been effective for the Sooners when he's had a chance. He's spent the last two years at Oklahoma after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College, and although he appeared in eight of 13 games last season, he didn't earn his first start until this year. He received four starts at right tackle and appeared in seven games overall during the regular season. He's currently listed as their backup right tackle.

5. Arjen Colquhoun, defensive back, Michigan State: Cotton Bowl/CFP semifinal vs. Alabama, Dec. 31, 8 p.m Eastern, TSN1/4/5, ESPN: Colquhoun came in at third in the September rankings, so his stock has slipped a bit, but he had a pretty good season, appearing in all 13 of Michigan State's games and recording 38 tackles, two interceptions and 10 passes defensed. He's listed as their starting left corner.

12. Juwan Brescacin, wide receiver, Northern Illinois: Poinsettia Bowl vs. Boise State, Dec. 23, 4:30 p.m. Eastern, TSN2/ESPN: Brescacin (who's hilariously listed as from "Mississauga, AB" on ESPN's stats page; Northern Illinois' own page has Mississauga in its correct province)was 11th in the September rankings, and his stats took a bit of a downturn this year; he finished with just 286 receiving yards after topping 400 in each of the two previous seasons. He's been in good form lately, though, posting six catches for a season-high 114 yards Nov. 24 against Ohio. A strong showing in this bowl might help him move up the prospect list.
