QMJHL Roundup: Verrier's overtime goal lifts Voltigeurs past Tigres

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. - Jerome Verrier assisted on the tying goal, then scored his 27th of the season in overtime to lift the visiting Drummondville Voltigeurs over the Victoriaville Tigres 3-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action on Saturday.

Down 2-1 in the second period, Charles-David Beaudoin scored to even the contest for Drummondville (24-11-2), and Matthew Boudens rounded out the Voltigeurs' offence with a power-play goal in the first period. Frederick Gaudreau picked up two assists.

Angelo Miceli opened the scoring with a short-handed goal for Victoriaville (13-17-6) at 9:50 of the first period, and Gabriel Gagne added the other Tigres' goal.

Louis-Philip Guindon stopped 25 shots for the victory. Victoriaville's Brandon Whitney made 30 saves in defeat.

OCEANIC 4 TITAN 0

RIMOUSKI, Que. — Michael Joly scored a hat trick and Philippe Desrosiers made 18 saves as the Oceanic shutout the Titan.

Alexis Loiseau also scored for Rimouski (21-11-6), who outshot Acadie-Bathurst 26-18. Tyler Bolland picked up two assists.

Mason McDonald started in net for the Titan (14-19-4), but was pulled in the 51st minute after giving up all four goals on 22 shots.

Daniel Vautour made four saves in relief.

CATARACTES 2 ISLANDERS 0

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Goaltender Maxime Legace made 32 saves as the Cataractes shutout Charlottetown.

Alexandre Grand-Maison scored his sixth of the year for Shawinigan (9-25-3) at 7:48 of the third period, and Alex Pawelczyk added an empty-netter in the closing seconds.

Eric Brassard stopped 38-of-39 shots for Charlottetown (14-19-5).

The Cataractes outshot the Islanders 40-32.

SEA DOGS 4 SCREAMING EAGLES 2

CAPE BRETON, N.S. — Oliver Cooper scored twice for Saint John, which cruised past the Screaming Eagles.

Kelly Bent and Stephen Anderson also scored for the Sea Dogs (9-23-3), who scored twice on just eight shots in the first period.

Maxim Lazarev and Jeremy Beaudry replied for Cape Breton (19-15-3), which was held to only three shots in the third.

Sebastien Auger finished with 31 saves for the Sea Dogs. At the other end of the ice, Cape Breton's Alex Bureau stopped 17-of-20 shots.

WILDCATS 2 MOOSEHEADS 1

HALIFAX — Josh Pugsley's goal in the third period lifted Moncton to a slim win against the Mooseheads.

Christopher Caissy tied the game for the Wildcats (19-17-2) on the power play in the second period.

That goal came after Connor Moynihan gave Halifax (23-14-1) the lead 6:47 into the first.

Alex Dubeau needed to make 36 saves for the win in Moncton's net, two saves better than Kevin Darveau had for Halifax.

BLAINVILLE-BOISBRIAND, Que. — Danick Martel scored the game's only goal as the Armada halted Baie-Comeau's four-game win streak.

Martel scored the winner on the power play at 14:13 of the third period for Blainville-Boisbriand (25-5-7) while Etienne Marcoux stopped 25 shots to earn the shutout.

Daniel Walcotte picked up an assist to extend his point streak to 11 games.

Philippe Cadorette turned away 15-of-16 shots for the Drakkar (24-9-4).

QUEBEC — Kurt Etchegary opened the scoring and closed it out with an empty-net goal for the Remparts.

Anthony Latina and Anthony Duclair also scored for Quebec (19-11-7), who finished off Chicoutimi with three unanswered goals.

Sebastien Sylvestre and Frederic Allard scored back-to-back goals for the Sagueneens (18-19-1), who led 2-1 before the Remparts went on a run.

Francois Brassard turned aside 31 shots for Quebec, while Chicoutimi's Julio Billia made 30 saves.

HUSKIES 5 PHOENIX 4 (OT)

ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Marcus Power scored just over four minutes into overtime to help the Huskies hold off Sherbrooke.

Dillon Fournier, Gabriel Slight, Liam O'Brien and Mathieu Lemay had a single apiece in regulation for Rouyn-Noranda (22-10-4).

Daniel Audette scored twice for the Phoenix (13-21-4), with two more goals coming from Kevin Domingue and Jean-Francois Plante.

Huskies goalie Alexandre Belanger made only 15 saves for the win. Sherbrooke's Gabriel Parent was much busier with 27 stops.

VAL-D'OR, Que. — Vincent Dunn opened the scoring just 10 seconds into the game and went on to finish with a hat trick for Gatineau.

Alexandre Chenier-Allard had the other goal for the Olympiques (23-13-1).

Phil Pietroniro, with a short-handed goal, and Pierre-Maxime Poudrier replied for the Foreurs (25-12-1).

Olympiques goaltender Robert Steeves finished with 34 saves, while Kevin Bouchard stopped 25 shots for Val-d'Or.
