The number one golfer in the world was arrested this morning while trying to enter Valhalla golf Club to compete in the PGA Championship.

Scotty Scheffler was arrested Friday morning and charged with second degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.

However, according to Scheffler, the whole incident appears to be a giant misunderstanding earlier in the morning, around 5 a.m. an unrelated traffic accident occurred just outside the golf course where a shuttle bus struck and tragically killed a pedestrian.

This caused police to change the traffic pattern around the golf club's entrance.

When Scheffler arrived around 6 a.m. he attempted to enter the course in a marked player's vehicle with a visible credential.

According to his lawyer, he was proceeding as directed by another traffic officer.

However, according to the police report, when a different officer told him to stop, Scheffler refused to comply with those instructions, accelerated his car forward and dragged that officer to the ground.

The officer then began to scream at Schefer to get out of his car.

He exited his vehicle where he was immediately handcuffed and taken away to jail.

He tried to explain that he didn't not know the man telling him to stop was a police officer.

The officer was transported to the hospital after suffering pain, swelling and abrasions to his left wrist and knee.

His pants were damaged beyond repair.

Scheffler was booked at 7:28 a.m. but was then released from custody at 8:40 a.m.

He arrived back to Valhalla at 9:12 a.m. teed off around 10:10 a.m. and birdied the first hole Scheffler released a statement on his Instagram saying he never intended to disregard any of the officer's instructions and expressed sympathies to the family of the man who passed away all in all a pretty eventful start to day two at the PGA.
