Philadelphia Zoo Debuts a Pair of 'Bear-y' Cute Sloth Bear Cubs

The Philadelphia Zoo debuted a pair of sloth bear cubs on May 23. Footage recorded by Kory Aversa show the male cubs, born on January 2, staying close to their mom, Kayla, as they explore their enclosure.

The zoo asked people to help name the cubs by holding a public vote. The zoo said the potential names are Kelce and Harper, “inspired by Philly sports legends Jason Kelce of the Eagles and Bryce Harper of the Phillies,” or Hall and Oates, “Philly’s iconic pop rock duo with hits like “Out of Touch” and “You Make My Dreams Come True.”

In an official announcement when the cubs were born, the zoo said it was a win for conservation as they were the first “successful pair of cubs of this species born in more than 30 years at the zoo.”
