Number of first responders in Baltimore City is dwindling

There is a shortage and emergency medical technicians and paramedics in the Baltimore City Fire Department that's leading to burnout among first responders. Fire department spokesman Kevin Cartwright told 11 News that attrition, retirement and members leaving for other jurisdictions is behind the shortage. But as of Thursday, Cartwright said the department is doing something about it. "We are opening our doors to recruiting EMT\firefighters and paramedics as we speak. Throughout the entire month of June, people can actually apply for these positions," Cartwright said.
