I'm gonna just pose this as my one big thing for the 49er.
How loud is the noise around Brock Purdy's contract going to get?
This is according to Spot track right now.
His salary cap number for this year is $1.004 million.
Are you kidding me?
Brock Purdy's contract, his cap number is just over a million dollars and important to note, you can't renegotiate a player until they finish year three.
Right?
So this is the first time at the end of this coming season, he can be renegotiated because he was a late pick.
He's a, he only has four years on a deal.
So if you're a 49er fan, you're listening saying, ok, well, we've got him for a million this year.
And again, according to the worldwide interweb, 1.19 million next year, I don't think there's any way in hell, Brock Ferdy is gonna show up and play for 1.19 million.
So now all of a sudden, if you're the 49er and Brock, we get into this spot where you go from being a really amazing story that everybody loves to get behind to a very real question of, are you a $50 million a year quarterback?
Because if systems make quarterbacks in San Francisco, they're gonna have to answer that very real question.
Brock Purdy has played too well and if he has this season this year, I think most of us think he'll have.
I think he's a very good quarterback.
I don't really care if it's the system, he's putting up the numbers, he's putting up and we look at the 40 trying to figure out how to balance their money already with the stars.
They have if Brock plays particularly well this year or doesn't, either way, the roar about his contract is going to be a wild distraction for everybody.
Uh It's crazy.
I, I think that this might be the most interesting contract conversation we've ever had in the NFL because we've all agreed upon this, that the most valuable thing in sports is having a good quarterback on his rookie deal and nobody's ever leveraged that the 49ers might.
You're gonna get to the finish line at some point with Brock Purdy and they're gonna have to have a real conversation of, is this Kyle Shanahan or is this Brock Purdy?
And can Kyle Shanahan find the next Brock Purdy or do we just pay Brock Purdy 50 million?
Because we think he's that dude.
These are hard conversations.
What makes him great though.
What, what made him his numbers pop off the page and actually put him in the MVP conversation was all the guys around him.
You can't have that type type of supporting, asked around him if you're paying him $50 million.
This is the conundrum, the 49er face and they have to think about this every day.
What are we gonna do?
No team has ever really given up a quarterback like Brock Purdy.
You are absolutely right.
This is a major thing for the 49er.
Maybe not in, you know, whether they win a Super Bowl this year or not, but for the future for the next 10 years of the San Francisco 49er, what they do at Brock Purdy's contract is absolutely intriguing.
