Mom And Daughter Frightened by Near-Miss Lightning Strike in Minnesota Storm

A mother and daughter in Moorhead, Minnesota, were shocked on Wednesday, May 31, when a lightning bolt struck across the street as the pair were watching a storm roll in.

Footage recorded by Tracy Halbakken shows the frightening incident outside their home.

A loud crack of lightning can be heard in the footage, accompanied by a flash of light. Halbakken can be heard yelling in shock.

“My daughter Courtney and myself were sitting out on the front porch watching the storm come in and when it started to pour and I decided to video the rain,” Halbakken told Storyful.

“I then captured the lighting that struck the tree on the other side of the street. Courtney and I thought at first that it had struck her Jeep. Thankfully no one was injured and her Jeep is also not damaged,” she added.

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for an area west of Moorhead on Wednesday evening.

Radar images posted by a local meteorologist also shows storms in Moorhead on this date. Credit: Tracy Halbakken via Storyful
